Sometimes we lose connection with ourselves, our families, our communities, and our life purpose - often it is anxiety and depression and the root cause of these feelings and emotions that prevent us from thriving. Effective counseling can help you to re-connect.
Trauma affects one in three people and the impacts can be devastating resulting in both mental health and physical challenges. Many traumas are passed from generation to generation. The right kind of counseling can help you find meaning, peace and wholeness in spite of these traumas.

Grief from loss can be devastating. Loss can be symbolic or it can be tangible. Grief can be complex especially when it is disenfranchised grief. Grief becomes disenfranchised when you don't have societal validation of your loss and are limited in support, understanding, and validation of your pain and grieving process. Disenfranchised grief may include loss of childhood through emotional, sexual, and physical abuse and violence, loss of a pet, suicide of a meaningful person, sudden inability to provide for self and family, or significant negative shifts in health and well being.
I work with adults of all ages who are experiencing difficulties in optimal functioning in their personal and/or professional lives. I also work with people who identify with diagnoses which fall under the name of persistent and severe mental illness, and those who experience disassociation and de-personalization.
My work with people is based in authentic communication. My counseling approach is individualized and integrative of concepts from Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory, Positive Psychology, Internal Family Systems, the NeuroAffective Relational Model, and Somatic Experiencing techniques. I will facilitate your journey through your negative symptoms toward a more self- and other-connected and heart-centered you. My commitment to you as your counselor is to be fully present to you and to your needs. Sessions are highly focused and productive. Examples of areas of focus include:
I strive to assist you in your therapeutic goal by keeping a balance between integration of past traumas with your present day emotional and psychological state. I am effective in maintaining this balance to minimize disruption to your well being while also guiding you through the hard painful experiences and supporting you in your life goals.
On a more personal level -- If you have experienced any kind of trauma, I want you to know that trauma isn't a life sentence. It's common to feel stuck in trauma and it may profoundly impact your daily life, disrupt your experience of the world, your relationships, your health, your sense of yourself. Symptoms of trauma may include pervasive anxiety, with feelings of powerlessness, apprehensiveness, confusion, feeling at times like you are "not in control," anger, sadness, depression, identity confusion, extreme vulnerability, and/or feeling "lost."
Also know it is common that for many of us there have been times in our life where we have lost connection with ourselves. Sometimes this loss or collapse away from optimal health and well being also results in disruption in our relationships with other people, situations, and with our communities of support. Through our attempts at re-connection or repair we may create dysfunctional behaviors, cognitive, and somatic patterns that are attempts to keep us safe in the moment but now are the source of the pain, frustration, anger, anxiety or depression we are experiencing. These patterns are sometimes hard to identify but in counseling I can help you sort through what strategies are working and help to identify those that are not serving you well in your life goals.
